What Is Secure Printing?
Security is an issue that is of concern to many people, particularly with digital information, as it is often far too easy to share. This is not only seen in everyday usage, it is also true when it comes to printing documents in many different types of industries. It doesn’t matter if you are a doctor that is printing prescriptions or if you are a financial institution that is printing checks, making sure that you have all of the security in place to do it without any problems is a must. Here are some things that should be considered.
One of the more common reasons why somebody would need secure printing is if you were a financial institution or perhaps a corporation that was doing its own check printing. You would need to make sure that the security was in place to ensure that financial information did not end up anywhere where it was not supposed to be. This is not only true if a single department was handling the printing process but it is also true when multiple departments or branches will be doing the printing. This need is increased when you’re going to be using the network to send the information to the printer from multiple locations.
Much of the security that is offered in these types of printing processes is going to be software based. There are also times, however, when a printer needs to be secured as well. This is frequently seen when a doctor’s office is going to be printing prescriptions and they don’t want anybody to have access to the paper except those who are authorized to do the printing. In this case, you would want to have a security printer available which would have a locking tray so that nobody could access the paper without authorization. Of course, it is not just doctors that are able to take advantage of these types of security measures as you can utilize it for transcripts or even for securing plain paper when you have an open office environment.
If you’re going to be utilizing a secure printer for processing checks or other secure documents, you would want to make sure that you get one which was able to handle the capacity that was necessary on a monthly basis. If you’re only going to be occasionally printing items, it will be not be necessary for you to purchase a printer that can handle hundreds of thousands of documents on a monthly basis. At the same time, you would want to make sure that you got a printer which was able to take care of the specific type of printing that was necessary, such as MICR printing. Be sure that you check the specifications of the printer and discuss it with the salesperson if necessary to make sure that you’re making the right choice for your needs. They may also be able to assist you in coming up with a software solution that may be necessary to secure it even further.
